How do the timing lights work? Print E-mail

In Toastmasters, every speech is timed. Table Topics, prepared speeches, and even evaluations are all timed but with different time limits.

The timing lights have three colors - green, amber, and red.  The green light comes on when the speaker has met the minimum time limit. The amber light comes on when the speaker is halfway through the allotted time window.  The red light is turned on when the speaker has reached the maximum time limit. It is recommended that the speaker conclude his/her speech within 30 seconds of the red light coming on so that the meeting can stay on schedule.

For example, table topics is 1 to 2 minutes in duration. Thus the green light would come on at 1 minute. The amber light would come on at 1:30.  And the red light would come on at 2 minutes.
